Doug Grad began his publishing career during the 1978 New York City newspaper strike and worked in publicity and editorial roles before temping at Connie Clausen & Associates in 1986.

He started at Simon & Schuster in November 1986, became assistant to Bill Grose at Pocket Books in May 1987, and was promoted to Associate Editor in 1990 overseeing western fiction and military non-fiction and acquiring golf books.

In 1995 he joined Ballantine Books and published his first New York Times bestsellers by Jeff Shaara.

In 1998 he moved to Penguin as Senior Editor for the NAL imprint, acquiring for multiple lists and publishing New York Times bestsellers including works by John Jakes and the mass-market edition of South by Ernest Shackleton.

In 2005 he joined ReganBooks at HarperCollins, where he published New York Times bestsellers Brutal and The Boy of Steel and worked on a range of commercial and non-fiction titles.
