Kirby grew up in Los Angeles, studied PPE at Pomona College, taught English in South Korea, and earned a JD from UC Hastings College of the Law.
He moved to New York in 2004 and began his publishing career at Charlotte Sheedy Literary (then an affiliate of Sterling Lord Literistic), later working at Vigliano Associates where he began representing projects.
He joined Endeavor in 2008 (which merged with William Morris in 2009), stayed at WME for five years, and then joined Janklow & Nesbit.
Kirby is currently a board member of the Asian American Writers Workshop.
He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and two kids.
