Sandra was born in Toronto, spent her childhood in Detroit, and much of her adulthood in Europe.

She has degrees in Hispanic Literature from the University of Toronto and the University of Buenos Aires, and a Masters in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory from the University of Barcelona.

She started at an indie record label, then worked as a teacher, translator, and assistant editor at Granta en Español and Duomo Ediciones.

She was head of foreign rights at Casanovas & Lynch Literary Agency for eight years and ran the Barcelona reading series Albor.

She was a 2019 Frankfurt Fellow and a 2022 Zev Birger Editorial Fellow.
